Lindsey’s CULT book rec list

Everyone has those things in life that they just LOVE to learn about. For me… it’s cults. Yes, cults. Don’t drink the Kool-Aid. This is a list of books that I have read that have themes of cults; mostly memoirs of people who have escaped cults. My favorite cult to learn about is the FLDS but I’ll read, watch documentaries, and do random research on all kinds of cults.

FLDS cult books:

  • Escape by Carolyn Jessop

  • Stolen Innocence by Elissa Wall

  • The Sound of Gravel by Ruth Wariner

  • The Witness Wore Red by Rebecca Musser

  • Under the Banner of Heaven by John Krakauer

  • Breaking Free by Rachel Jeffs

Other cult books I recommend:

  • Banished: Surviving My Years in the Westboro Baptist Church by Lauren Drain

  • Wholly Unraveled by Keele Burgin

  • Stolen by Elizabeth Gilpin (cult tactics used by the Troubled Teen Industry)

  • Sex Cult Nun by Faith Jones (the Children of God cult survivor memoir)

  • Troublemaker by Leah Remini (Scientology survivor memoir)

  • Deceived: An Investigative Memoir of the Zion Society Cult by Michael King by Michael King

  • Cultish by Amanda Montell (the language of cults)

  • Slonim Woods 9 by Daniel Levin

  • Brown Girl All Cult Up by Dani Jessant

  • The Hive by Gregg Olsen (fiction)

  • When She Returned by Lucinda Berry (fiction)
