four ways I save money on books

I love to read but I don’t love to spend $20 or more for a book that I’ll only read once! When you are reading over forty books a year, like me, that adds up! My bookshelf is filled with used books from a variety of places and my Kindle has held most of my reads through the past 4 years.

Here are four ways that I save money and still read all of the books that I want!

  1. I am a Kindle Unlimited subscriber. First of all, Kindle books are already usually cheaper than buying a hard copy book but for $9.99 a month, I have access to any book on Kindle Unlimited. You can have borrow up to 10 books at a time. I have discovered some of my favorite authors from finding books on Kindle Unlimited! To be clear, you do not have access to EVERY book on Amazon, instead it is a small variety. If you are looking for more Kindle Unlimited book recs, check out my book review blogs HERE because I have read A LOT of good ones!

P.S. - If you are a reader and don’t have a Kindle yet, get on it. It is well worth the investment for so many reasons! I love the Kindle Paperwhite linked HERE.

  2. Goodwill and Value Village have DEALS on books. I have seen that different Goodwill locations will have different pricing on their books but I love finding books there. Value Village has a tiered pricing based on the original price of the book and a Buy 4 Get 1 Free deal. These are perfect spots to find hard copy books that were popular a year or two ago that everyone bought and got rid of or really obscure books at a discounted rate!

  3. Half Price Books and other local bookstores with used options are another great option. Half Price Books has a small bookstore feel with major retailer resources. I think they have the best combination of new and used books and I could spend HOURS in there browsing. I also love a local bookstore and my favorites are the ones that take in used books on consignment. I don’t need a MINT CONDITION hard copy book 95% of the time.

  4. Libby is the most amazing app and program through local libraries. YES! You can get ebooks and audiobooks for your Kindle or phone through your local library! It works similarly to a normal library check out process with loan times but it is SO EASY to use and a HUGE MONEY SAVER. It is the best thing I have done in 2021 and I am so excited to share it with fellow readers. I was late to taking advantage of this awesome opportunity and don’t want you to miss out any longer! Just search for your county library’s website, and you should be able to find information on your branch’s options from there!

BONUS TIP - If you are dead set on buying through Amazon, add books to your Wish List! Sometimes Amazon will either send you a coupon for a book on your list!

Once again, if you are looking for book recs and reviews - check out my other reading blogs!

Reading the books you want doesn’t need to cost you an arm and a leg!
