a day in Sumner, WA
Sumner, Washington is a small town in South Puget Sound about 45 minutes from Seattle proper. It is a hidden gem of a town and has turned into one of my favorite places to spend a Sunday. They have great food and even better shopping.
My boyfriend, Casey, and I love to go to antique-ing and Sumner’s Main Street has an abundance of antique shops. Some are full on, all antiques and vintage items, while others have a mix of old and new. One thing I love about this place is that it encourages refurbishing and creativity with vintage pieces; there are multiple shops that sell chalk paint and supplies to DIY your perfect piece of decor.
Some of my favorite antique/vintage/gift shops in Sumner are below:
Junkers Nest
Sparrow & Nightingale’s
A Picket Fence
Off the Beaten Path
Finders Market General Store
All of these are within walking distance of each other on Main St. If you are really looking for some furniture, there is also a HUGE store called The Old Cannery Furniture Warehouse in Sumner.
But the best part of a small, country town is the good country cooking! If you are in Sumner you need to try one of these places!
Hometown Charm Cafe - I really loved this place. They have classic meals for breakfast and lunch but the real winner here is the pie. I LOVED their strawberry rhubarb pie and I, seriously, think about it almost once a week.
Crockett’s Public House - This one is technically down the road in Puyallup, WA but it is AMAZING. It was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives and has fair scones and grits and cocktails. What more could you ask for?
Main St Dairy Freeze - I am a sucker for anywhere called a Dairy Freeze. To keep your day going with the vintage vibes - you have to go to this old school burger spot. Great burgers, fries, and shakes!
I think the best time to go to Sumner is during Rhubarb Days at the end of July! There is a street fair with vendors, food trucks, and live music.
Make sure you take a picture next to the “LIVE LIKE THE MOUNTAIN IS OUT” mural. This is the motto of the South Sound, especially in the summer.
Stay tuned for more adventures in the Pacific Northwest!
cheers!
